To Parents/Guardians of our Grade 11 students

February 5, 2021

Good afternoon.

Our district has partnered with researchers at SFU and UBC to deliver the Youth Development Instrument (YDI) survey to our Grade 11 students. The YDI builds on the Early Development Instrument (EDI) and the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) to check in on student development, health, and well-being during adolescence, an important time as youth prepare to move into adulthood. The survey questions align with the BC Ministry of Education’s K-12 curriculum which includes a focus on promoting young people’s personal and social competencies.

Grade 11 students will be invited to complete the YDI survey at Abbotsford Senior Secondary between March 29 to April 9.

If you do not want your child in Grade 11 to complete the YDI survey, you may complete and return the withdrawal form included at the bottom of the parent/guardian passive consent letter which you will separately receive. Alternatively, you may directly contact the YDI team at ydi [at] sfu.ca with your child’s details and with any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Abbotsford Senior
