Opportunity for Community

Goals

  • Create and maintain a school environment that is connected, caring, and inclusive of all students.

Student Voice: Student voice is the active and meaningful engagement of students in the decision making processes that affect their education. It involves empowering students to share their perspectives, work with adults, and contribute to shaping their learning environments, curriculum, and school policies. This approach goes beyond simply listening; it requires taking action based on students' input to improve educational experiences and outcomes.  By listening to and acting on student preferences, interests, and perspectives helps students feel invested in their own learning.  Student voice is about creating and maintain school spaces and processes that reflect the desires of the students to create an educational experience that is meaningful and relevant while reminding them that their voices matter and they can have real impact on the world around them.

Breakfast and Lunch Program

Every day at lunch, students head to the Indigenous room for community, laughter, and a delicious meal. With a grant from the Feeding Futures program, students who face food insecurity, are able to access a nutritious meal 5 days a week. With dozens students participating in the program from all backgrounds, lunchtime gathering has quickly become a place of connection, laughter, games, and smiles.   There has been a 30% increase in those who access food assistance programs in Abbotsford since 2019, and here at Abby we hope that with our program in place, students know that they have a meal ready and waiting for them on a daily basis.
